UK and EuroMillions Lottery Winners
It could be you...
PA Wins Rollover Jackpot!
Press
release: 12 December 2008 |
A Whitby PA and her stuntman partner are
still in shock after discovering that
she had scooped the massive £7,544,200
Lotto rollover jackpot from the 10
December 2008 UK Lottery draw.
Jane Surtees (48) and her partner Mark
(42), who lives in the UK, celebrated
her win by taking a trip to the local
café and trying to eat a sausage
sandwich! She can now afford to treat
her family to a Christmas to remember in
Disneyland before the two of them take
off for a romantic holiday in the
Maldives.
After attending a wedding party and
staying at a hotel, Jane returned home
and switched on Teletext at 7:45am to
see the news headlines and decided to
check her Lotto numbers. Realising she
had won, she couldn’t believe her eyes
and switched on her computer to double
and triple check the numbers. |
|
|
Jane has five
children and was trying to keep her win
a secret from them while she got them
ready for school. Her youngest child,
Jasmyn (7), saw the numbers on the
computer and said: "Have you won some
money Mum?", and after reading the
numbers wrongly added: "£7,500, wow! Can
we go to Cadbury World now?".
Jane said: "I got the
children off to school and rang Mark and
then Camelot. Mark came round and we sat
in the café thinking that everybody
around us already knew. It is
unbelievable. Last week I went to a
family wedding and was so skint I
couldn’t even afford to eat anything
other than prawn cocktail crisps and
pickled eggs in my room! I still can’t
get my head round it, but it is very
exciting."
Jane and Mark have
been together for five years. Jane works
as Mark’s PA and he works as a stuntman
coordinator for TV shows.

Couple ‘Net’ Lotto Win After Finding
Love Online
Press release: 3 September 2008 |
 |
A recently-married couple from Yeovil
(UK), who found love on the internet,
have been lucky online once again – they
banked a £1,925,567 share of the Lotto
Rollover jackpot on Saturday 30 August
2008 playing via National-Lottery.co.uk.
Ed Edwards (43) and his wife, Michelle
(39), met through an internet dating
agency two years ago and found they
clicked instantly. They tied the knot
six months ago and have four teenage
children between them. The family has
already been ‘logging’ their spending
ideas, with a new house in time for
Christmas, a holiday and a Mini Cooper
topping their shopping list.
Michelle has already handed in her
notice as store manager for Edinburgh
Woollen Mill in Yeovil, while Ed – a
computer engineer for the probation
service – has taken a month off to come
to terms with their lottery win. |
Ed said: “Both our employers have been
brilliant - really supportive and
pleased for us. We are so chuffed to be
able to spend a bit of time together to
work out what this money means for us
and our family.”
Ed’s lucky streak began on Friday when
he won £7 on EuroMillions. As a result,
Michelle suggested they chance their
luck once more on the Saturday night
Lotto draw – and it was an extra Lucky
Dip® that won them a share of the
jackpot. Ed did not check the lottery
results until Sunday lunchtime, however,
and in error he deleted the email
telling him he had won.
Ed explained: “I thought it was the
email from two days ago telling me I had
won £7. It was only when I started
checking my account that I saw the
‘alert’ to contact Camelot. When the
lady told me I had matched all six
numbers I couldn’t understand what she
was saying or understand the amount of
money she told me – I just couldn’t get
my head round it.”
He
continued: “I went downstairs and had
Sunday lunch with the family without
saying a word even though Michelle said
I did look very pale. After two more
calls from Camelot I told Michelle I had
to walk the dogs and that she had to
come too because we needed to talk. I
finally told her we had won the lottery
at the bottom of a field – she told me I
was a liar!” |

Engineer Clicks On To High Voltage Lotto
Win
Press release: 17 March 2008 |
Going online for the first time to play
the UK National Lotto proved a positive
move for an electrical engineer who
landed the £2,855,067 Lotto jackpot on
Wednesday 12 March 2008.
Peter Heal (37) is now one of the most
eligible bachelors and is already
planning for the future with a second
home in France at top of his list.
The cable laying supervisor has been
playing Lotto for some years, but it was
the first time he had gone online with
his lucky numbers.
Peter said: "My parents have retired to
France, in the Poitou-Charentes region
south of the Loire, so it would be nice
to have a property over there, perhaps
one with a vineyard. |
 |
I'll keep my house in Newton Abbot, UK,
though and I'm looking to get a new
car."
Two of Peter’s winning numbers, 38 and
41, were taken from his call sign at
Western Power Distribution, while his
birthday is the 26 January making up the
26 and 1, and his lucky number is 13.
The number 47 was chosen at random.
Peter said: "I was at home when I
checked them. It's been quite a shock to
the system and I'm still not sure
whether I am going to continue working."
The winning Lotto numbers on Wednesday
12 March were 1, 13, 26, 38, 41 and 47,
and the bonus ball was 7. |

Couple
Celebrate Lotto Jackpot
Press release: 4 March 2008
A couple from
Erith, in Bexley, UK, are
celebrating after scooping
£2,964,163 in last Wednesday’s Lotto
draw (27 February 2008).
The win couldn’t
come at a better time for Arthur
(47) and Jackie (46) Wright as they
prepare to become grandparents for
the first time this summer.
The couple are
already starting to plan how to
celebrate their win and a luxury
holiday for the whole family to
Disney World in Florida is top of
the list. However, the couple nearly
missed out on their good fortune –
Arthur, a Process Operator at
GlaxoSmithKline, was so eager to get
home, he nearly didn’t buy a lottery
ticket at all.
Arthur said “I was
travelling back from work and
looking forward to getting home so I
contemplated not buying a ticket but
something made me change my mind and
go out of my way to the newsagents
in Erith. I’m so glad I changed my
mind!"
"When I checked
the numbers in the paper the
following evening I thought someone
was playing a practical joke so I
checked online, on the TV and
everywhere I could think of to
confirm the numbers. Then I started
to realise that it was either a very
elaborate joke or we really had
won!”
|
The
couple are the latest people to
benefit from the Dartford (DA)
postcode’s run of luck. Dartford was
recently ranked fifth luckiest
lottery postcode in the UK and this
win adds to the £103 million in top
prizes already banked by winners in
the area.
Jackie, a technical masker at Base
Enamellers, was shopping with her
daughter in Lakeside when Arthur
broke the news to her. Arthur added:
“I phoned Jackie to tell her and she
thought we must have made a mistake.
I knew she must have been in shock
because when she got home she said
she hadn’t been able to shop
properly because she was so
distracted!”
The winning Lotto ticke was a Lucky
Dip®/Quickpick. The winning Lotto
numbers for the 27 February 2008
draw were 16, 29, 30, 32, 38, 45 and
the bonus ball was 40.

Triple
Rollover Jackpot Win for Couple
Press release: 29 January 2008
A retired
couple are celebrating after they
scooped the amazing £18,992,109 UK
Lotto Triple Rollover jackpot on
Saturday (26 January 2008).
Steve (58) and Ida (68) Smith play
the UK Lotto regularly but they
almost missed out on this fantastic
prize when Steve forgot to buy an
extra few Lucky Dips/QuickPicks.
Steve, a retired chargehand hospital
porter, explained: “We always buy a
few lines for Lotto every Wednesday
and Saturday but this time, because
it was a Triple Rollover, Ida asked
me to buy some extra Lucky Dips,
just in case.
|
 |
“I’d completely forgotten until Ida
reminded me when we were driving
home from seeing family on Saturday
afternoon. Luckily, I saw a shop
ahead so we stopped off and bought
three Lucky Dip tickets – and it was
one of those that hit the jackpot!”
Ida, who used to work in the laundry
at the same hospital, said: “I was
just getting Sunday lunch ready when
Steve went to check our numbers on
Teletext but none of them were
winners. I still had the Lucky Dip
tickets so I started checking those
and saw we’d matched three numbers.”
Steve continued: “Ida said we’d
matched three numbers but I had a
look at the ticket and told her we’d
matched four. Then I looked again
and realised we’d matched all six!
We couldn’t believe it. We left the
Teletext pages on for hours and just
kept looking at it, worrying the
numbers might change!”
Top of the shopping list is a
four-bedroomed bungalow with some
land for stables and a paddock as
well as a top-of-the-range Range
Rover. The couple’s first priority,
however, is to look after their
family and friends before embarking
on a shopping spree for new clothes.
Steve said: “I’ve always loved
horses and it would be fantastic to
have some land where we could keep
them. It’s amazing to have become
multi-millionaires overnight but we
are just looking forward to making
our family comfortable.”
Steve bought the winning ticket with
the Lucky Dip®/QuickPick option. The
winning UK Lottery numbers on
Saturday 26 January 2008 were: 1, 2,
6, 13, 38, and 43.

Lotto Luck For Young Couple
Press release: 19 September 2007
A teenage couple are celebrating
beginning a whole new life together
after winning a £716,766 share of the
Lotto jackpot on Saturday 15 September
2007.
Ollie Kennedy and Kelly Lucas (both 18)
discovered they were jackpot winners on
Sunday afternoon, after Ollie finished
playing a Sunday league game of football
for the Gillespies. The Sunday evening
celebrations for their 3-2 win were
extended when Ollie arrived and
announced that he and Kelly had hit the
jackpot.
Kelly, who turned 18 earlier this month,
and Ollie have a seven-month old son and
plan to use their winnings to buy a
house together. |
|
The couple only started to play the
lottery two months ago and have kept the
same numbers since the start – a
selection based on birthday dates of
family members and lucky numbers.
Ollie said: “I checked our lottery
tickets on Teletext when I got back from
playing football on Sunday. Kelly was
with me and we couldn’t believe it when
we saw that we had matched all six
numbers – we’re still in complete shock,
but obviously completely over the moon!
We didn’t know what to do with the
ticket so we decided the safest place to
keep it would be in Kelly’s dad’s safe.
We left it there while we went out to
celebrate.”
Ollie continued: “Our families are
really happy for us and we’re looking
forward to buying a house together. I
plan to have driving lessons and Kelly
really wants a pink Peugeot 206.”

From Redundancy To Riches
Press release: 11 September 2007
Neil and Kate Chester from Margate are
now celebrating a complete change in
their fortunes after winning the
£8,531,595 Lotto Rollover jackpot on
Wednesday 5 September.
Neil (31) was made redundant only two
weeks ago from his IT job in Guernsey.
Neil and Kate (30), who have four young
children aged between 15 months and
10-years-old, found out about the win on
Friday, when Neil was travelling home
from London, where he had been for the
day for some job interviews. The lucky
couple now plan to purchase a new
Chrysler Voyager and a new family home
with a large garden with their winnings.
Kate is also looking forward to taking
up horse-riding lessons.
Neil said: "If I hadn’t been made
redundant I would never have won the
Lotto jackpot because you can’t buy
tickets in Guernsey. After I was made
redundant we decided to move to Margate
to stay with Kate’s family and I bought
a ticket. |

|
|
They do say that everything happens for a
reason – and the win is an absolute
dream come true. After 11 years of
marriage, I can now take my wife on a
honeymoon!"
He added: "With two job offers under my
belt, I was very happy. So when I was
walking home from the station I decided
to pop into a shop to buy a chocolate
bar and check my Lotto ticket at the
same time. When the shopkeeper checked
the ticket and told me I’d won, I nearly
passed out! I ran home and planted a big
kiss on Kate."
Neil continued: "Our plans now are to
enjoy life and fulfil our dreams. I am
going to enjoy spending time with my
family not going to work. We haven’t
ever taken the children abroad on
holiday so we are ecstatic that we are
now able to do this. First on the
shopping list will be a trip to
Disneyland Paris for the whole family."
Neil and Kate’s winning ticket, which
was a Lucky Dip®/Quickpick, was bought
at Tesco Extra in Westwood Cross, near
Broadstairs, in Kent. The winning Lotto
numbers on Wednesday 5 September were
11, 24, 26, 35, 39 and 40.

Chef To Taste High Life After Lotto Jackpot
Win
Press release: 21 August 2007
A chef is celebrating an extra-large
serving of lottery luck – and is looking
forward to enjoying an à la carte
lifestyle – after winning the whopping
£4,986,272 UK Lotto jackpot on Saturday
18 August 2007.
Paul Hardware (51) and his wife, Denise
(46), claimed their UK Lotto jackpot win
after a run of luck earlier in the week.
Paul, who works at the Piper’s Inn in
Ascot, Somerset, left Cardiff to find
work at the age of 16.
Since moving to Somerset, he is still a
regular visitor to Wales and is a big
Welsh rugby fan. Paul will definitely be
using some of his winnings to watch the
Welsh kick off their Rugby World Cup
campaign next month. He and Denise also
plan to buy a new house in Street – as
well as looking after their son, Matthew
(20).
Paul explained: "I was leaving the
snooker hall with my son Matthew a
couple of weeks ago and saw the first
star in the sky... |
|
...I decided, for a laugh, to follow the
tradition and make a wish so I wished to
win the lottery. Since then I have had a
real run of luck. I put £1 on last
Wednesday’s Lotto draw and won £10. I
then found a £10 note in the street and
then on Saturday I hit the jackpot – I
can’t believe it."
Paul added: "It’s a big relief to be
able to pay off the mortgage, but we
will definitely look round for a new
property. We already have an idea of the
house that we fancy. We will also be
booking a few holidays – I really don’t
mind where it is as long as it’s hot and
sunny."
Paul selected his numbers with the Lucky
Dip®/Quickpick option.

Lotto Jackpot Win Is A Cut Above the Rest
Press release: 11 July 2007
A mobile hairdresser from Honiton, UK is
planning to celebrate in ‘style’ after
trimming a £1,655,605 share of the Lotto
jackpot on Saturday 7 July 2007 Mandy
Williams (47), her husband Alan (52),
and their two children, Hannah (21) and
Danielle (18), now plan to take a few
luxury holidays – although Mandy has
already decided she will not be giving
up her job.
Top of their list are the bright lights
of New York and next is one of Mandy’s
dream destinations, China – to see the
Terracotta Army. The couple also plan to
invest some of their winnings and make
sure their children get a foot on the
property ladder.
They are going to help Hannah buy her
first house as well as treating her and
Danielle to a new car each. It was
actually Alan who discovered the win
when he took the ticket into the local

I really thought it was a dream. We are
still in shock! We plan to have a few nice

Shop worker scoops £4m in Lottery
12 June 2007
A shop worker who won £4m on the UK
Lottery has told how he intends to
return to his law studies. Neil Murray,
27, from Banchory, Aberdeenshire, bought
the winning ticket at the shop where he
worked as an assistant manager.
He has already left that job but his
wife Jennifer, 24, said she intended to
carry on working as a teacher.
The couple said they were in shock after
learning about the jackpot win in last
Wednesday's draw.
Mr Murray said he was in disbelief when
the six numbers - 7, 21, 22, 28, 37 and
40 - appeared to be a match, and had to
ask his boss to double-check.
Mr Murray said the news of his
£4,018,314 win had not yet sunk in.
"This is still a big shock. I just can't
get over the fact that the thing you
think is never going to happen to you
has happened," he said. |
|
He had previously been unable to complete a
post graduate law course because of the cost
of the fees.
Mr Murray now plans to pay off all his
student loans and continue to pursue a
career in law.
"I can't ever imagine being a person who
sits around the house all day doing
nothing," Mr Murray said.
"I like to keep active and busy."
Mr Murray bought the ticket at the
beginning of last week.
He said: "During my break at lunchtime
on Thursday I got a print-out of the
winning numbers from the night before to
check my numbers.
"I just couldn't believe what I was
seeing, so I asked my boss to look at
them.
"I said to him 'could you check this,
because I think I am going mad'."
Describing his boss's reaction, he said:
"I think he swore at me."
After discovering his win, Mr Murray
continued to work his shift at the
store.
Taking holidays
He then went home and celebrated with a
Chinese takeaway and champagne with his
wife.
Mr and Mrs Murray now plan to move to a
bigger house where they can keep horses,
one of Mrs Murray's passions.
They said they would buy a new car and
are thinking about taking holidays to
Paris and New York.
The young couple said they were also
considering donating some of the money
to cancer charities.
Mrs Murray was in a shop looking at
horse magazines when she received the
phone call from her husband. "I didn't
believe him," she said.
"But I guess I do now."

"Now I know what it's like to be rich!"
16 April 2007
Mum of three, Jennifer Southall, was
tasting champagne for the first time
after scooping an £8.37m UK Lotto
Rollover Jackpot.
Jennifer (43), from Newport, Gwent, UK,
left it six days before checking the
numbers on the Lucky Dip®/QuickPick
ticket she had bought for The National
Lottery® draw on Easter Saturday, April
7 2007. But within an hour of
discovering she had won an £8,372,751
fortune, she resigned from her job as a
cinema supervisor and started planning
the rest of her life.
A single mother of three teenage
children who all still live at home in
Ringland, Newport, Jennifer spent the
first day of being a Lotto
multi-millionaire at the local shops
with her mum and sister. |

Photo: ThisIsMoney.co.uk
 |
|
"We thought we’d go mad and go shopping together
in Newport. I’ve never gone through so much
money before in a single day," she said. "I
spent about £1,500 on clothes, phones, a new
handbag and a posh pair of trainers. We had
great fun."
But the serious spending will start once
Jennifer, who worked for 10 years as a
supervisor at Cineworld in Spytty Road, Newport,
passes her driving test. "I finally have the
money to pay for driving lessons and once I’ve
passed I’m going to go out a buy myself a brand
new car – probably a pretty red one.
"I’ve also always wanted to live in a big house
with a swimming pool – and a bedroom for me
that’s far enough away from the kids that I
won’t be able to hear their music blaring
anymore!
"In fact, even though I still feel sick and in
shock at having won so much money, believe me I
am going to enjoy spending it."
Jennifer, who has a daughter (19) and two sons
(17) and (14), is Newport born and bred. She was
brought up in the Alway district of the town
before moving to Ringland.
"I love Newport and even though I shall look to
buy a much bigger house, I can’t ever imagine
myself moving away from the area. All my family
and friends are here and they are very important
to me," she said.
Jennifer has played The National Lottery since
it started and bought her Lucky Dip winning
ticket at her local Tesco on the Monday before
the Easter Saturday draw.
"The day I bought the ticket I slipped it in my
bra for safekeeping before putting it in my
purse later in the day. I never thought for one
moment it would end up changing my life. When I
went back to Tesco last Friday to check the
numbers the shop assistant looked at me and
said: ‘I think you’ve won rather a lot of
money.’
"When she printed off the slip showing exactly
what I’d won I started dancing from one foot to
the other. A queue of people had built up behind
me and they must have thought I was some sort of
demented fool. I suddenly felt sick – and still
do – although now it’s a very excited sort of
sick feeling. I walked over the road to work,
told my manager I’d won the lottery and handed
in my notice there and then.
"When I went to have my ticket checked Camelot
gave me a bottle of champagne to help me
celebrate, but I just went home and ordered a
pizza. I still haven’t opened the champagne – I
have never tasted real champagne in my life."
Jennifer, who also plans to get a new passport
and fly to Spain to visit her other sister,
received her winning cheque today at a press
conference at the Celtic Manor Resort hotel,
near Newport, where the champagne was finally
flowing.
She was accompanied by her sister, Angela
Edwards, and their mum, Mrs Jeanette Steed, who
also live in Newport.

33 Winners!
21 November 2006
A 33-strong syndicate of workers from
Palethrope Pie Factory in Market
Drayton, UK has joined the upper crust
after matching five main numbers and one
Lucky Star number to win a
mouth-watering £6,750,278.40
share of the EuroMillions jackpot on
Friday (17 November 2006).
As no-one across the nine participating
EuroMillions countries matched all five
main numbers and two Lucky Star numbers
to win the whole £123,232,395 jackpot,
this massive top prize was shared
between 20 lucky ticket-holders across
Europe who matched five main numbers and
one Lucky Star number on the next prize
level.
|
|
Each of the lucky syndicate members in
Market Drayton will get £204,553.89,
with group leader and Quality Control
Officer, Daryl Bowden (55), getting an
even bigger slice of the pie – as
husband David also was a member.
Daryl explained: "One of my fellow
syndicate members called me to say she
thought we had got the winning numbers.
I didn’t believe her at first. I started
checking our 33 Lucky Dip lines, and by
line 25 I still hadn’t seen anything and
thought she must have been wrong. Then
there it was: the third from last line –
five numbers and one Lucky Star".
Daryl continued "David checked the
ticket and then he starting dancing
around. Although I was very tired after
a long shift and needed a snooze, I just
couldn’t sleep I was so excited. We then
started to phone around the other
syndicate members."
Daryl said: "A fellow syndicate member
suggested we play EuroMillions when it
got to £88 million. I didn’t get round
to it until the £100 million Rollover
though. We didn’t win then but decided
to have another go in the next draw
anyway – I am so glad we did!"
Both Daryl and David intend to keep on
working at the factory but are planning
a few holidays, including trips to
Jersey and New England. They will also
be looking after their family. Other
member of the syndicate will be spending
their share on holidays, home
improvements and new cars.
Daryl bought the winning Lucky Dip®
ticket at One Stop, Shrewsbury Road,
Market Drayton. The winning EuroMillions
numbers on Friday 17 November were 12,
22, 32, 33, 36, and Lucky Star numbers
were 2 and 6. Out of the 20
match-five-and-one-Lucky-Star winners
across Europe, the UK topped the
winners’ table last Friday with seven
winning ticket-holders, who all scooped
£6.75 million each (£47.25 million
altogether) – France was second with
four winners, followed by Portugal and
Spain with three each, Ireland with two
and Belgium with one.

Sussex, UK, will be celebrating
his ‘ice’ little earner by taking his
family to explore Antarctica and Lapland
– after matching all six numbers to win
a cool £8,495,189
jackpot in the Lotto draw on Saturday 4
November.
Stephen (46), who owns his own building
company, commented: "I can’t believe
that we have won the Lotto jackpot! My
family and I will be able to fulfil all
our dreams of travelling around the
world. We have only ever been to places
in Europe but now we can start to plan
trips to places we could only ever dream
of before the win. Top of our list is
Antarctica and Lapland. Our first
holiday will be a skiing trip to
Courchevel, France in January."
|

|
|
Stephen continued: "I found out that we
had won when I checked the numbers on
the National Lottery website at 8am on
Sunday morning. I couldn’t believe it
when all our numbers came up so I asked
my wife, Julie (42), to come and check
it for me. She wasn’t best pleased to be
dragged out of bed early on a Sunday
morning – until she found out why!
"We were absolutely shocked and stunned
and didn’t know what to do when we
realised that we had won the jackpot. We
spent the rest of the day walking around
Worthing town centre trying to calm down
and let the news sink in. It didn’t feel
real and I was extremely worried about
losing the ticket. I safety-pinned the
ticket to the top pocket of my shirt to
keep it safe, but I couldn’t relax until
I knew the money was actually in the
bank."
Stephen added: "Our plans now are to
enjoy life and fulfil our dreams. that
the money is in the bank, I can’t wait
to spend some of it! The on the shopping
list are a Volkswagen Touareg and a
camper van to enjoy not going to work,
although I will still keep a keen
interest business. My wife, however,
really loves her job as a part-time
nursery at a local school and is
planning to continue with that."

The National Lottery Creates Its First Manx
Millionaire
25 October 2006
Jimmy Goodwin (62) of Ballasalla, Isle of
Man, is celebrating in style after becoming
the Isle of Man’s first National Lottery
millionaire – he matched five main numbers
and one Lucky Star number to bank
£1,228,704.80
in last Friday’s EuroMillions draw (20
October 2006).
Local steel worker Jimmy’s cheque was
presented to him by Camelot’s Head of Player
Services, Dot Renshaw, who flew over to the
Isle of Man on Wednesday 25 October to
congratulate him. Jimmy is still on a high
from the massive excitement of the news but
in his own laid back fashion, the brand new
‘EuroMillionaire’ is trying to take this
momentous win in his stride. However, he
knows that this will make an enormous
difference to his life.
Jimmy commented: "This kind of win means a
huge weight of my mind in general,
especially with Christmas coming up. And it
gives me the freedom to think about things
other than work, which is wonderful".
Currently working for Ronaldsway Aircraft
Company, Jimmy is now thinking about a life
of leisure with his £1.2 million winnings –
spending his time fishing and shooting, two
of his main passions. |
|
With a great interest in sea fishing, the
first dream purchase will be a boat.
Jimmy is also an avid fan of Manchester
United, so some trips away to see the
team play are certainly on the cards –
this will no doubt give partner Rosie a
great excuse for some shopping
excursions too.
It was a colleague at work who first
alerted Jimmy to his win. He explained:
"I thought he was kidding around! He had
to get the crumpled up results out of
the bin to show me I really did have the
numbers.
Jimmy added: "Everyone at work was
absolutely delighted for me – they were
all shaking my hand".
The winning Lucky Dip®/Quick Pick ticket
was bought from Station Garage,
Castletown. The winning EuroMillions
numbers on Friday 20 October 2006 were
10, 19, 34, 45, 47, and the Lucky Star
numbers were 3 and 6.
Jimmy has bought his ticket already and
is now urging players all over the Isle
of Man to do the same. To win the
EuroMillions jackpot, players need to
match five main numbers from one to 50,
and two Lucky Star numbers from one to
nine – but with 12 prize levels in
total, EuroMillions actually offers a
greater range of prizes than any other
National Lottery draw.

Lotto Jackpot Win Is Written In The Stars
For Grandmother
20 October 2006
A Kingswinford, UK grandmother is
celebrating after becoming the Black
Country’s latest millionaire. Brenda
Portch, (67), scooped a £1,487,099
share of the Lotto jackpot from
Wednesday’s draw (18th October 2006)
after she read about the win in her
horoscope.
Her amazing good fortune completes a hat
trick of wins in the Black Country and
comes only days after Irene and Ronald
Jones, from Bilston, won a £9,355,603
jackpot in Saturday’s (14th October)
rollover draw. Their win followed West
Bromwich Albion fans Josie and Mick
Timmins who netted £2,010,267 on the 9th
September. |

|
Brenda, a retired health service telephone
operator said: “It’s amazing that I have
won. I had seen the Bilston winners on the
front of the newspaper on Wednesday and said
to my sister that they looked a lovely
couple and deserved the win. “I have always
had a feeling I would win the lottery and on
Wednesday my horoscope for Taurus said: ‘You
will have luck on a bingo or lottery ticket
and share a secret with a friend’. Who would
have believed it would come true.”
Brenda was at home doing a crossword
watching the lottery draw live on TV
when she discovered her win. As the
numbers came up she wrote them on her
newspaper and could not believe her
eyes. She explained: “I was really
shocked. I phoned my son and he checked
on teletext and confirmed I had matched
six. I wanted to share the good news
with all the family so I drove round to
see my daughter and two sons.”
Brenda continued: “I then went round to
see one of my sisters, Denise, and we
both went round to our other sister
Dinkie’s house where we celebrated,
unbelievably, with a cup of coffee. I
gave Dinkie the ticket for safe keeping
and she hid it in her husband Ted’s
underwear draw as we decided that was
the last place anyone would want to
look!”
Brenda is already thinking about how to
spend her win. As well as treating
herself to a new car, she is also keen
buy a new house. Her and her sisters
already have a holiday booked to
Philadelphia to visit their nephew and
Brenda has decided that they will be
upgrading their tickets to first class.
Her number one priority will be to look
after her family, especially her three
children Steve (45), Lisa (38) and
Robert (35) and her eight grandchildren
and two great grandchildren.
The win could not have come at a better
time as Robert and his partner Natalie
are expecting Brenda’s ninth grandchild
in a couple of weeks. Brenda commented:
“Family really does come first with me
and this win means the world to me. It
means I can really look after the people
I love.”
Brenda’s winning ticket, which was a
regular line of randomly chosen numbers,
was bought at Barnett Lane Post Office
and News, Kingswinford. The winning
numbers on 18th October were: 6, 12, 36,
39, 41 and 48.

Soccer
Fan Scores with Lotto Jackpot
6 October 2006
Everton soccer fan Robert Davies (61) swears he
won’t become “toffee-nosed” after netting a
£1,454,780
Lotto jackpot win in Saturday’s Lotto draw (30
September 2006).
Robert from Kirkby, UK is already planning to
take early retirement from his job as a building
site manager. He said: “I really am over the
moon! The win means I can help the family by
giving us security for the future. And after 32
years of hard graft in the building industry, I
will really be able to enjoy my retirement.“ |
|
Robert was with his wife and their three
children when he discovered the win, he said: “I
was at my daughter’s house watching the lottery
programme on TV when the numbers were drawn. My
lottery ticket was in my brother Leonard’s car
and I was only able to remember one of my lines.
I was checking those numbers off in my head as I
saw the five numbers come up I thought I was
dreaming. When the sixth one appeared I nearly
fell of my chair!
“I phoned Leonard and asked him to check the
numbers and bring the ticket over. I could not
believe it until I had it in my hand and could
see it for myself. I didn’t want to put the
ticket down. I was scared of losing it.” Robert
is planning a holiday to America and is
considering buying a new house, although he says
he wants to remain in the area.
According to the findings of the first academic
study into lottery jackpot winners, carried out
by Dr Richard Tunney of the University of
Nottingham, Robert’s decision to stay in the
area could well pave his way to happiness. As
unsurprisingly the report has shown that 97 per
cent of participants are as happy or happier
with their lives post-win. One of the main
contributing factors towards happiness
identified was that the majority of winners
continue stay in the same postal town, close to
family and friends, even after they have bought
a new house to live in. The winning ticket,
which was a regular selection picked from family
birthdays, was bought from Costcutter,
Loweswater Way, UK. The winning numbers for
Saturday 30 September 2006 were: 8, 12, 13, 19,
26 and 38.

Store workers checkout Lotto Jackpot Win
29 September 2006
A 10-strong syndicate of checkout staff from
Tesco Stores in Sudbury, Suffolk, UK is
celebrating after ringing up an incredible £7.5
million share of the Lotto Superdraw jackpot on
National Lottery Day on Saturday 23 September
2006.
The 10 friends are now busy drawing up their
dream shopping lists – apart from cars, holiday
and kitchens, some of them are also planning on
helping out children and grandchildren with
mortgages and bills. The winners have no
immediate plans to give up their jobs, however,
as they are all good friends and enjoy working
together. |

|
|
Syndicate leader, Avis King (63), said:
"We’re all still in shock and everything
feels a bit surreal at the moment. When I
found out we’d won on Sunday I was just
shaking from head to toe – I still haven’t
come down to earth yet. We have been playing
together as a group but this is our biggest
win so far!"
Syndicate member, Brenda Cleverley (59),
said: "We all love our jobs and have many
wonderful customers so we all feel we would
be missing out if we decided to give it up."
Shelagh Matthews (56) agreed: "Since the
news broke that we won all our customers and
workmates have been coming up,
congratulating us and commenting that this
couldn’t have happened to a nicer group of
people – that means a lot to us."
Hilary Cox (61) added: "It’s a lovely
position to be in. I know between us we have
lots of grandchildren and we are all going
to be able to help our families."
The lucky syndicate bought the winning
ticket from Tesco in Sudbury using regular
numbers they play every week. The winning
Lotto numbers on Saturday 23 September were:
6, 26, 28, 35, 42, and 43.

Soccer
Fans
Score Lotto Jackpot Win
12
September 2006
West Bromwich Albion soccer fans Josie (46) and
Mick (48) Timmins, are cheering from the
terraces after netting a
£2,010,267 share of Saturday 9
September 2006 UK Lottery jackpot.
Josie and Mick from Dudley, who have two sons
Lee (20) and Michael (16), are already planning
on how to spend their windfall – the lucky
couple have decided that their first purchase
will be West Brom season tickets. As well as
looking after the family, they will also be
buying a new house and going on a dream holiday
to Mexico. |
|
Josie, a part-time hairdresser at Joanne’s Hair
Fashion, said: “The whole family has always
supported the Baggies, but we have never been
able to afford season tickets before. Now
with our Lotto win, they will be the first thing
we splash out on.”
Mick, who works as a Health and Safety Manager
for Stanford Industrial Floors, added: “We
definitely will buy a new house and I collect
Koi Carp so I’d love to have a bigger pond.
Josie loves handbags, so I’m sure she will be
treating herself to a few! This win means
everything to us – it’s a fantastic feeling to
know we can now secure ours and our sons’
futures.”
Josie was at home on Sunday morning when she
discovered their big win. She explained: “I was
checking the numbers on Teletext and was
crossing them off on the ticket. I was saying to
myself, ‘I’ve got that one and that one, great
I’ve got four.’ Then I realised I had all six! I
had to wait until Mick got back from walking the
dog before I could actually confirm I wasn’t
dreaming.
“Once Mick had checked the ticket, we went over
to my mum’s where she looked at the ticket again
and that’s when it really started to sink in. I
ran all over the house shouting, ‘I’ve won, I’ve
won’ – I couldn’t believe it. We’ve only
celebrated with a cup of tea with a tot of
whisky in it but we definitely plan to have a
family party once things have calmed down.”
Josie bought the winning ticket, a regular
selection of randomly chosen numbers, at Smith’s
Newsagent, Tividale. The winning Lotto numbers
on Saturday 9 September were: 2, 15, 21, 37, 43,
and 46.

Couple Hit For Six By Lotto Jackpot Win
30
August 2006
A cricket-mad couple from Reading, UK
have been bowled over after winning a
£2,436,040 share of the Saturday 26
August 2006 UK Lottery jackpot.
Annette (56) and Terence Rooke (57) are
now busy making plans for the future –
including upgrading their holiday to
Australia later this year to first
class. The lucky couple are still
deciding what else they want to spend
their money on.
Annette, an assistant at Ernst & Young,
was at home when she discovered that
they had won. |

She said: “We always buy two Lucky Dips, but
we never thought we would win. I checked the
numbers on Teletext and had to go and get
Terence
from the
garden, where he was mixing cement to lay a
new patio. Neither of us could believe it,
so we just kept checking the numbers over
and over again. It is really only just
beginning to sink in.”
“We are thrilled and emotional. It’s still
a shock, so we haven’t celebrated yet and
it’s hard to really think what we’ll spend
the money on. We will treat ourselves
though. For a start, we had been planning to
visit family in Australia at the end of the
year. We’ll definitely fly first class and
we can have a longer trip. We fully intend
to keep on playing Lotto. We’ll do Lucky
Dips still – we used to have regular numbers
but recently changed. It’s worked for us!”
The winning Lucky Dip® ("Quick-pick/Random
Number") ticket was bought from Sainbury’s
in Broad Street, Reading, UK. The winning
Lotto numbers on Saturday 26 August were 10,
17, 24, 31, 42 and 49.
