causes? So far
£20 billion has been raised since
the first Lottery balls were drawn in 1994.
Without doubt this has had a hugely positive
impact on the lives of millions of people
around the UK.
The National Lottery began in November 1994
with about 28% of every pound going to five
designated Good Causes.

· Charities
· Heritage
· Millennium projects / Health, Education
and the Environment
· Sports
There are currently 14 bodies responsible
for distributing funds. Each of those bodies
makes decisions about who shall receive
awards independently of the Government,
according to guidelines established by the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
An independent regulator, the National
Lottery Commission, ensures that the
National Lottery Distribution Fund (NLDF)
receives the correct sums from Lottery
proceeds. When any award is made by one of
the distributors, it is the responsibility
of the NLDF to release the appropriate funds
to the Good Causes. |
